n 2024, the global average temperature surpassed 1.5 °C above pre-industrial levels for the first time, making rapid climate action an urgent human rights necessity. Yet instead of supporting a just and fast transition away from fossil fuels, U.S. President Donald Trump is actively undermining global climate efforts in ways that harm people and the planet. According to Amnesty International, Trump has withdrawn the United States from key global climate bodies — including the Paris Agreement, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), and the Green Climate Fund — and is using bullying tactics to push fossil fuel interests. The administration is promoting climate disinformation, weakening domestic protections, defunding climate science, and restricting the civic space for climate activists. These actions risk reversing years of international cooperation and leave vulnerable communities around the world more exposed to the worsening impacts of the climate crisis. Urgent global resistance and accountability are essential to defend climate science, justice, and human rights.
