Tuvalu Slams US at COP30 for Climate Betrayal

At COP30 in Belém, Tuvalu delivered one of the strongest interventions of the summit—directly calling out the United States for abandoning the Paris Agreement again under Donald Trump and jeopardising the survival of small island nations. The message was sharp, human, and painfully honest: “We cannot remain silent while our islands are sinking.” Tuvalu accused major polluters—particularly the US—of treating climate negotiations like optional politics while frontline nations face extinction.
The crisis they described isn’t natural. It’s created by fossil-fuel corporations whose profits drive political decisions in the richest countries. Governments serving these interests walk away from global commitments, while vulnerable nations drown.
For India, the warning resonates deeply. Our communities—from Sundarbans to Lakshadweep—face similar threats. Tuvalu’s message urges countries like India to demand accountability, stronger adaptation finance, and justice—not empty pledges.
