U.S. Repeals ‘Endangerment Finding’: A Major Blow to Global Climate Action

In a move that shifts the foundations of global environmental policy, the U.S. government has officially repealed the Endangerment Finding (EF). Originally issued in 2009 by the EPA, the EF was the legal bedrock that classified greenhouse gases as a threat to public health, forcing the government to regulate emissions. By revoking it, the U.S. is pivoting away from decades of science-led mitigation, potentially slowing the global transition to green energy.

While this repeal emboldens fossil fuel interests and may dampen investor confidence in renewables, experts argue it cannot stop the structural shift toward lower-carbon technologies. For India, the message is clear: do not let the U.S. retreat be an excuse for domestic inaction. Instead, India must accelerate its own investments in green R&D—from advanced solar to carbon capture—to secure its position in the emerging global green economy.
