Aradhana Bhargava, an advocate, has championed the rights of farmers against an Adani coal project for over 10 years. As a result of her vocal opposition to the proposed Pench coal-power plant, she was allegedly assaulted by ‘company goons’ in July 2011. The police and government have repeatedly tried to intimidate her. But she stands up to them and generally prevails in the courtroom. Serious work has yet to commence on the languishing project.
