As another toxic winter descends, Delhi-NCR’s air has again turned into a silent killer. The Air Quality Index has crossed “severe” levels in several areas, coating the sky with smog and forcing citizens — especially children and the elderly — into confinement. Every year, the same crisis returns, worsened by stubble burning, vehicular emissions, and unchecked construction dust. But behind these visible causes lies something darker — a government unwilling to act against corporate polluters and a system that treats clean air as a privilege, not a right.
Despite Supreme Court warnings and public outcry, fossil-fuel lobbies continue to dominate policy decisions. Ordinary people are left gasping, while industries and builders continue unchecked. Breathing should not be a battle — yet in Delhi, it has become exactly that.
